Metal Energy Hub

Metal Energy Hub – The platform for metal-based energy storage systems

Iron in the energy cycle:
Sustainable. Scalable. Safe.

Projects

The Metal Energy Hub project landscape forms the basis for a new generation of metal-based energy storage systems. Each project addresses a specific component of the value chain – from thermodynamic modeling and experimental validation to implementation on an industrial scale. The focus is always on robust systems with transformation potential: retrofitting existing infrastructure, long-term storage of renewable energies, and technology-neutral sector coupling.

The modular structure enables both scientific depth and technological scalability – embedded in European funding structures and supported by strong partnerships with industry and politics.

The following overview presents the five central projects: Clean Circles, A-STEAM, CORAL, Metal Energy Hub, and MEIKE.

Technology Readiness Level (TRL)

TRL measures technology maturity from concept (TRL 1) to deployment (TRL 9). As a university research hub, TRL 7 represents our maximum achievable level: Technology validation in operational environment.
